2021 was another challenging year for everyone but we have had fantastic support both online and in the shop once we were allowed to reopen to customers in April. We would like to thank everyone for your support and to wish you a very happy, healthy and successful 2022.
Winter Opening Hours
From 4th January until Easter the shop is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am – 5pm. We will be closed Sundays and Mondays to recharge our batteries.
We are also currently planning to be closed from Friday 11th March and reopening on Tuesday 22nd March, pandemic permitting
If you can’t make it to the shop in person please order online or contact us directly by email, on the phone or through social media.
Monthly Newsletter
When we were forced to close our door to customers for the third time in December 2020 we set ourselves the challenge of starting a monthly newsletter so that we could keep in touch and let people know about events in the shop and new publications. Our first newsletter came out in April and if you’d like to receive our monthly email and haven’t already subscribed, click here to give us your contact details.
2021 Roundup
Despite being closed for the first part of the year we had great support through our online shop which we had updated during the first lockdown in 2020. The summer proved to be our busiest yet as people flocked to Aberaeron , many visiting the area for the first time and loving it. As restrictions relaxed over the summer we were able to have book signing events and enjoyed meeting Derek Brockway and Glan Davies plus a return visit from Alis Hawkins, author of the ever popular Teifi Valley Coroner series.
During the year we have also increased our range of signed copies. If there are any particular authors or celebrities that you are interested in let us know and we will see what we can do.
In September Aberaeron was the starting point for the Queen Stage of the Tour of Britain. Our ducks took to their bikes in support of Mark Cavendish, whose books adorned our window along with others from our new cycling section. Huge thanks to Aberaeron Cycle Works for the loan of a bicycle for our window display which proved to be quite a talking point.
Our hopes for 2022
Like everyone, we hope that Covid doesn’t dominate our lives in 2022 like it has for the last two years. With this in mind we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the Aberaeron Book Festival will be able to return in the autumn after a two year absence. We’re also hopeful that we’ll be able to hold readings and book signings during the year and are really looking forward to celebrating World Book Day with Aberaeron school children on and around the 3rd March.
Plans to start a book club are underway and Niki is looking into adding a book subscription option to the website – what better present to give a book lover than the surprise of a newly published book arriving on your doorstep each month? And there’s a rumour that Karen will be starting a podcast…watch this space!
People are definitely starting their Christmas shopping early this year and if you’re planning to give books as presents then take a look at our Christmas catalogues, both packed full of ideas for all ages and tastes. Available to pick up from the shop or just click on the links below.
The latest edition of Booktime magazine is also out now, free copies in the shop or read it here.

We also enjoy sourcing 2nd hand books and like nothing more than finding a specific edition of an old favourite or tracking down something that is out of print. Beautiful old books can make very special presents and we have plenty of interesting books for you to choose from as well as all the new titles on offer. We are open every day between now and Christmas giving plenty of opportunities for browsing. Mon to Sat 11am – 5.00pm Sun 11.30 – 4pm.
Thank you
We consider ourselves very fortunate to have the best support from our customers and would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who comes in the shop or supports us through the website. We’ve been constantly busy since reopening after the winter lockdown and have had so many lovely comments that mean so much to us. Here’s hoping for a festive season when we can all get together and enjoy spending special time with our families and friends.
It’s so wonderful to be open again and thank you to everyone who has popped into the shop for a browse, a chat and to buy books over the last two weeks. If you’ve not been in yet and seen our new bookcases in the back room, come and take a look…. some of you may recognise them from the old Lampeter university bookshop which closed a few years ago. We had no idea we would be booksellers when we bought them but they really do look at home and we think they’re a great addition to the shop!
If you love Crime Fiction….
It’s nearly time for the first Gwyl Crime Cymru Festival – all events this year are online. We are Partner Bookshop to Event #5 on Wed 28 April and the final Event #18 on Mon 3 May. Booking closes 24 hours before each event so don’t be disappointed – take a look, there’s a great variety of events to sign up to.
If you would like to order any of the books linked to our events, take a look here.
Prize Draw -Tir na n-Og Awards
We are delighted to be able to give away one copy of each of the nine shortlisted titles for the 2021 Tir na n-Og Awards. All you have to do is tell us which title you would like to win and send us your contact details. Enter using our contact form, by email or social media. Entries are open until Saturday 15 May. The books are all here if you’d like to take a look before deciding which one you’d like to win.
We are open from Monday 12 April. Mon – Sat 11am to 5pm
We’ve been making changes!
A massive thank you to artist Natalie Chapman for her fabulous artwork that has transformed the shop. The main mural depicts the stories of the Mabinogion (inspired by the illustrations of Valeriane Leblond in The Four Branches of the Mabinogi / Pedair Cainc y Mabinogi by Sian Lewis). We also asked Natalie to add a mural above the doorway into the back room -‘ Mor a Mynydd o Lyfrau’ (Sea and Mountain of Books) is the Welsh version of the Booksellers Association logo ‘Books are my Bag’ and we love it so much we’ve put it on the wall!
We’ve been busy!
We’ve also taken the opportunity to adapt the store room so that it’s now part of the shop – we’ve been busy moving bookcases and books. Who will recognise the bookcases we wonder – old Lampeter Uni students maybe? Come and take a look.
Making more space means just one thing – more new books! There are so many new titles that we’re excited about and can’t wait to show you. There have been some great new books published since the start of 2021; fiction, non fiction and for children. Maybe you’ve missed them during lockdown so we will happily tell you which are our favourite books that we’ve discovered over the last few months.
All new titles in stock can be found on the website but if there’s anything you can’t see just get in touch and we will probably be able to order it for you.
Subscribe to our newsletter
Our other main lockdown project has been to organise a monthly newsletter – if you’d like to find out more about new titles each month please subscribe. Just give us your email address, tick the box and we will add you to our mailing list.
