Blwyddyn Newydd Dda Happy New Year

Diolch Thank you

2021 was another challenging year for everyone but we have had fantastic support both online and in the shop once we were allowed to reopen to customers in April. We would like to thank everyone for your support and to wish you a very happy, healthy and successful 2022.

Winter Opening Hours

From 4th January until Easter the shop is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am – 5pm. We will be closed Sundays and Mondays to recharge our batteries.

We are also currently planning to be closed from Friday 11th March and reopening on Tuesday 22nd March, pandemic permitting

If you can’t make it to the shop in person please order online or contact us directly by email, on the phone or through social media.

Monthly Newsletter

When we were forced to close our door to customers for the third time in December 2020 we set ourselves the challenge of starting a monthly newsletter so that we could keep in touch and let people know about events in the shop and new publications. Our first newsletter came out in April and if you’d like to receive our monthly email and haven’t already subscribed, click here to give us your contact details.

2021 Roundup

Despite being closed for the first part of the year we had great support through our online shop which we had updated during the first lockdown in 2020. The summer proved to be our busiest yet as people flocked to Aberaeron , many visiting the area for the first time and loving it. As restrictions relaxed over the summer we were able to have book signing events and enjoyed meeting Derek Brockway and Glan Davies plus a return visit from Alis Hawkins, author of the ever popular Teifi Valley Coroner series.

During the year we have also increased our range of signed copies. If there are any particular authors or celebrities that you are interested in let us know and we will see what we can do.

In September Aberaeron was the starting point for the Queen Stage of the Tour of Britain. Our ducks took to their bikes in support of Mark Cavendish, whose books adorned our window along with others from our new cycling section. Huge thanks to Aberaeron Cycle Works for the loan of a bicycle for our window display which proved to be quite a talking point.

Our hopes for 2022

Like everyone, we hope that Covid doesn’t dominate our lives in 2022 like it has for the last two years. With this in mind we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the Aberaeron Book Festival will be able to return in the autumn after a two year absence. We’re also hopeful that we’ll be able to hold readings and book signings during the year and are really looking forward to celebrating World Book Day with Aberaeron school children on and around the 3rd March.

Plans to start a book club are underway and Niki is looking into adding a book subscription option to the website – what better present to give a book lover than the surprise of a newly published book arriving on your doorstep each month? And there’s a rumour that Karen will be starting a podcast…watch this space!
